Launch of Advocacy Report

"Advocacy, which has always existed in human relationships is a process of empowerment and can take many forms. It is a way of enabling those who may have difficulty speaking up for themselves to do so and thus can be key to involvement in decision-making. It generally means representing the view of a person or supporting them to exercise or secure their rights."

Comhairle has launched the Jigsaw of Advocacy, a new report prepared by Weafer Associates. This research report provides an in-depth analysis of advocacy in its different forms.

The title reflects both the piecemeal nature of advocacy in Ireland and the diverse forms it takes. The report considers advocacy within Comhairle's present remit, the provision of information, advice and advocacy through the Citizens Information Centres, but it also examines methods and structures which might enhance Comhairle's service in the future.
