Disability Information Awareness WeekCo. Clare Citizens Information Service in association with Comhairle launched its five day programme of events to mark Disability Information Awareness Week, on 1st September at Civic Buildings, Waterpark House, Ennis. A series of Nation-wide events at CICs throughout the country took place from the 8th – 12th September. During the Week the service focused on information for people with disabilities including their entitlements to services such as disability benefits, invalidity pensions, blind person’s pension, constant attendance allowances and carer’s benefits. An updated version of Entitlements for People with Disabilities was also promoted and distributed. The Mobile Unit was at the following locations each day throughout the week offering information and advice: Tuesday 9th at Sixmilebridge, Wednesday 10th, at Ennistymon, Thursday 11th Tulla and Friday 12th September, Killaloe. It also attended the Irish Wheel Chair Association Offices where members accessed the unit throughout the afternoon. One hundred Information Packs consisting of Relate, wallcharts and fact-sheets were distributed to service providers such as Helath Boards FAS Offices and VEC. The service also focused on people with disabilities who are in employment through targeted information on motoring, travel, housing and other life-style issues that they need.
